In terms of content offerings, the MGS re-release remains largely unchanged from the original PlayStation version, and MGS2: Substance retains the extended offerings that the Substance version of the game provided over the original Sons of Liberty release.
However, thanks to the dated physical releases and a lack of support on any digital storefront, both Hideo Kojima titles have been a challenge to play on modern computers – until today. Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance launched on PC in 20, respectively. Meanwhile, Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra packs in Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Contra, and Super Contra. These Metal Gear Solid titles have been absent from PC for quite some time, and today’s release marks the first time the original title has ever been playable on PC in an official capacity. Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance are arriving on PC via GOG today alongside a pack of retro Konami games from the Castlevania and Contra franchises.
